PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE
A pastor search committee of seven members shall be elected by the church. These seven are required to be at least twenty-one years of age and have been a resident church member for at least two years.
The committee shall consist of at least two men and two women.
Each church family or member will be notified by letter of the nomination date. This letter will encourage each member to prayerfully consider the nomination of members with the following qualifications:
- Those who are active, serving stewards of First Baptist Church.
- Those who have a knowledge of the total mission, ministry, and methods of First Baptist Church.
- Those who are familiar with the beliefs, cooperative work, and methods of Baptists beyond this local church.
- Those who show spiritual wisdom and understand that the church is first and foremost the “Bride of Christ”.
Selection process is as follows:
Round 1:
At the close of worship on Sunday morning, June 1, 2025, the Deacons will distribute, pew by pew to each church member in attendance, a nomination form. Prior to leaving, each member will nominate their seven personal choices to serve on this committee. The nominations will be collected by the Deacons and given to the Chairman of the Deacons.
The Deacons will, as soon as possible, tabulate the nominations. The Deacons will contact the fourteen members who receive the highest number of votes and are willing to serve on the search committee. In addition: these fourteen shall consist of at least four men and four women. If more than one member of an immediate family appears in this group of fourteen, each shall be contacted and they will notify the Deacon Chairman which one will remain in nomination.
As soon as possible, each church family or member will be notified by mail of the fourteen final nominees and of the date of the selection of the seven who will comprise the committee. This information will also be published in the Newsletter (Website) and in the next Sunday’s Order of Service.
Round 2:
At the close of worship on the second Sunday thereafter, the Deacons will distribute, pew by pew to each member in attendance, a ballot of these fourteen nominees. Prior to leaving, each member will select seven of these nominees to comprise the Pastor Search Committee. The ballots will again be collected by the Deacons and given to the Chairman of Deacons. The same group will, as soon as possible, tabulate the ballots and contact the seven Search Committee members. The remaining seven nominees shall comprise the Interim Pastor Search Committee if needed and shall be contacted by the Deacons to see if they will serve.
